In the Duma database, a bill No. 1168313-7 appeared - on the denunciation by the Russian Federation of the Treaty on Open Skies (ToOS), in force since 1992. The document was introduced by the President of the country Vladimir Putin.

Back in January, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the country's intention to withdraw from the ToOS. The reason for this decision was the US withdrawal from the agreement and the problems with agreeing on new conditions for staying in the agreement. The ministry indicated that Russia will leave the ToOS by the end of May 2021.

Earlier this month, the government approved the withdrawal from the Treaty. On May 5, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree on submitting a proposal to the head of state to denounce the Treaty.

It's worth reminding that the ToOS was signed on March 24, 1992 in Helsinki. It was signed by 23 OSCE member states. Russia ratified the treaty on May 26, 2001. According to the document, the participating countries can fly over each other's territories to control military activities.
