Edition Newsru.com, which existed on the market for more than 21 years, stops working, according to the website of the portal.
“We stop working for economic reasons, but they are caused precisely by the political situation in our country. After 2014, it became clear that not only geography and foreign policy, but also the domestic economy were changing radically”, - the editorial office said in an official statement.
As journalists note, for the majority of employees, work on the information site “took up most of their lives”: many authors have worked here since its opening.
The creators of the appeal noted that in recent years the picture of the day of publication "began to differ so much from the picture preferred by state resources". The result of such differences was that after 2014, large advertisers stopped working with the portal, and in 2021 the rest began to "fear".
The situation was complicated by the fact that more and more journalists had to write about the adoption of restrictive laws that could affect them any day.
“We had to label more and more respected people and sources of truthful information as foreign agents and extremists,” the editorial office said in its address to readers.
As noted by the Dozhd TV channel, the site initially opened as an Internet news portal for NTV in 2000 at ntv.ru. Media manager Anton Nosik participated in the launch of the publication. Then the TV channel became part of Gazprom-Media, while the news site remained under the control of Vladimir Gusinsky and changed its domain name to newsru.com.
By the decision of the editors, with the closure of the resource, the work of Newsru.com will not disappear: the staff of the publication will leave an archive of all news in the open access since 2000. And it includes over 1.172 million news items.
"This history of the events of the XXI century is extremely important for understanding what is happening today," - said the authors of the appeal.
According to journalists, the archive that remains in the public domain "will help not to be naive and gullible, will help to compare the facts and answer many questions".
“For us, this is the last message for today. We sadly say goodbye to our completely unique and loyal audience, ”the journalists wrote.
