After the collision of the 662-ton Russian merchant ship Amur and the Japanese 9.7-ton fishing vessel Dai-hachi Hokko-maru, which killed three Japanese sailors, none of the Russians were arrested, and the captain answered questions from the security service at sea of Japan voluntarily.

Nevertheless, the captain and ship owner of the Amur requested consular assistance.

"The consul has been there since yesterday evening, the legal status has not changed, but the captain and the ship owner have officially requested our consular assistance. Decisions are expected in the coming days", - RIA Novosti quotes the words of the Consul General of Russia in Sapporo Sergei Marina.

It's worth remindingl that the incident happened on May 26 in the Sea of Okhotsk. Experts believe that the collision could have provoked difficult weather conditions, since visibility in the area did not allow the teams to visually identify each other.

The Russian embassy promised to render assistance to the Russian crew and expressed hope for an objective and impartial investigation from the Japanese side.
