President of Belarus commented on the criminal case opened against the former editor-in-chief of the telegram channel NEXTA Roman Protasevich in the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) and the request of its Prosecutor General's Office to allow representatives of the department to be arrested for the IС.

“You are welcome to visit us, - Alexander Lukashenko said on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel.

At a meeting with the government, the head of the republic noted that he had raised this issue at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"There is a nuance. In Donbass, a criminal case has been initiated against these persons. I reminded President Putin of this and said that if [the self-proclaimed republics] have questions for them, you are welcome to us, ask them questions. Because they were killing people there, in the Donbass, and shouted [Protasevich] on the plane that he was facing the death penalty, and our journalists justified that we do not have the death penalty under such an article, but 15 years. He knew what he was talking about. He understood that there, in the south-east of Ukraine, claims could be brought against him - and this is a completely different situation”, - Lukashenko said.

Earlier, blogger Protasevich, detained in Minsk on May 23, was charged in the LPR with fighting in Donbass as part of a Ukrainian nationalist battalion. According to prosecutors from the LPR, he participated in battles where heavy weapons were used and committed a number of especially grave crimes, expressed in shelling of settlements in the DPR, which resulted in the death and injury of civilians, destruction and damage to civilian infrastructure.

Lukashenko also accused the detained Protasevich of killing people in Ukraine. At the same time, propagandists pass off photographs of Protasevich's photographs of the already deceased fighter of the Ukrainian battalion, Andrei Snitko.

At the same time, the blogger's parents decided to sue the TV channels, which, in their opinion, tried to discredit the name of their son. In particular, we are talking about a story on the STV TV channel, during which journalist Grigoriy Azarenok called her son a “neo-Nazi”.

Let us remind you that Roman Protasevich was detained during an emergency landing of a Ryanair plane in Minsk. The plane flew from Athens to Vilnius through the airspace of Belarus. To land this plane, a MiG-29 fighter was raised into the sky. The Belarusian authorities reportedly allegedly mined the liner. Protasevich and his girlfriend Sofia Sapega were arrested for two months. Now they are in the KGB pre-trial detention center.

Protests have continued in Belarus since August 2020. Those who disagreed with the official results of the presidential elections, according to which Lukashenko became president again, took to the streets with peaceful rallies. However, the protesters met with stiff resistance from security officials. As a result of the lamprey, the demonstrators were beaten and detained, some were killed.

Almost the entire composition of the coordination headquarters of the Belarusian opposition was forced to leave the republic. First of all, this was done by the leader of the opposition, former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya: she fled to Lithuania. After that, she was put on the wanted list in Russia. In March, Lithuania refused to extradite Tikhanovskaya to Belarus.
