Roskomnadzor proposed to oblige gaming platforms to store user correspondence

Subordinate to Roskomnadzor FSUE GRCHTS (Federal State Unitary Enterprise Main Settlement Center) proposed to legislatively regulate the gaming and eSports market in the Russian Federation, obliging gaming platforms to store correspondence data.

According to Kommersant, referring to the study of the subordinate structure, its employees drew attention to the fact that “the risks of legal uncertainty in the field of video games in Russia remain high”, which means that it is necessary “to look for mechanisms to regulate it”.

The center believes that the owners of gambling platforms should be obliged to keep in Russia information about the transmission of messages and images, the content of correspondence, including video and audio, as well as data about users.

The department states that such popular games as Among Us or Fortniht have become practically social networks, and this can create "a negative impact on personal development, as well as the risk of using the gaming space for the purposes of agitation and radicalization, the spread of terrorism and extremism".
