Every third Russian is afraid to fall for the trick of telephone scammers

Most often, scammers are afraid of adults from 45 to 50 years old. This was stated by 40% of the respondents. Young people are less likely to be afraid of calls from intruders. Only 14% of Russians 24 and younger have fear for their savings.

Almost half of Russians (45% of survey participants) consider it unlikely that they will lose money after a call from telephone scammers. Among young people under 24 years old, 60% of the respondents share this opinion. Another 18% are confident that they will not become victims of telephone fraud.

The survey results showed that every second (57%) survey participant received a call from scammers at least once in the last six months. Another 19% noted that they had received SMS messages. At the same time, every tenth survey participant notes that he lost money after communicating with telephone scammers. 6% say they have lost a tidy sum, the study notes.

Most often, the victims of fraudsters are villagers (15%), young people aged 18-24 (14%), middle-aged people 35-44 (10%), as well as Russians without higher education (13-14%).

Telephone scammers in the Russian Federation became more active during the crisis, playing on the fears and gullibility of Russians. They introduced themselves as bank employees and squeezed out personal data and bank card details. During the period of self-isolation, the Central Bank recorded a threefold increase in fraud with bank cards. According to Kaspersky Lab estimates, over the past two years, telephone scammers have stolen at least 40 billion rubles from the accounts of Russians.
