The third mate of the Russian ship "Amur" was arrested at the request of the Japanese law enforcement agencies in the framework of a criminal case on a collision with a fishing schooner, which killed three Japanese sailors.

The arrest of the assistant was reported to journalists by the Russian Consulate General in Sapporo. According to the investigation, the detained captain's mate was on watch during a collision with the schooner Hokko-Maru 8.

"We received information about the arrest of the third mate, who was on watch", - the statement is quoted by an employee of the Consulate General of TASS.

According to Kommersant, the matter concerns the arrest of 38-year-old Pavel Dobriansky. The sailor is suspected of maneuvering and maneuvering violations. He was detained for 72 hours, during which time he should be charged.

An emergency with the dry cargo ship "Amur", which was on the balance sheet of the Sakhalin fishing company "Amurskoye", occurred on the morning of May 26 in Japanese waters. About 23 km off the coast of Hokkaido, Amur collided with a fishing schooner. The collision resulted in the deaths of three Japanese citizens, no casualties from the Russian side were reported.

According to the Russian side, the clash took place approximately on the contact line in heavy fog.

“They might not have noticed the little fishing schooner. But it should not have been there, because it is too far from the coast”, - said Sergey Marin, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Sapporo.

According to him, the captain of the Russian ship acted in accordance with the instructions, and the crew of the Amur carried out a rescue operation.

After the emergency, the Asahikawa city court detained Amur as a bond to pay compensation to the victims. Amur's documents have been seized, without them the ship cannot continue its journey. Thus, according to the Russian consul Roman Kolesnik, Amur is virtually immobilized.

It is expected that the main crew of the ship will be able to return home only after the completion of the court proceedings. If the parties manage to resolve the issue of compensation, the ship can be released along with the crew and return to Russia. If an agreement cannot be reached, the case will have to be resolved in court. Then the Russian side will have to remove the crew from the Amur and ship it to Russia, leaving those responsible for ensuring the vessel's life.
