Ear congestion, leading to hearing loss, occurs in 18-23% of patients infected with coronavirus, said Natalya Pshenichnaya, deputy director for clinical and analytical work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor.

She also clarified in an interview with RIA Novosti that this symptom can be cured.

The expert noted that the residual manifestation of the symptom can be observed in 1.5-2% of cases with postcoid syndrome. After recovery, those who have recovered may still feel this symptom.

But in isolated cases after coronavirus, acute sensorineural hearing loss can also be noted. So far, scientists have not been able to establish its exact cause, but it is believed that the trigger of the process may be a viral infection, including COVID-19.

"It is assumed that hypoxia of the auditory center in the case of a severe course of the disease, as well as the use of certain medications may contribute to the development of this condition", - explained Pshenichnaya and added that it is highly likely to miss this pathology if the patient is in intensive care for a long time.

It should be noted that at least a quarter of those who have recovered from the disease experience postcoid syndrome. According to various estimates, 25-70% of those who have recovered from the coronavirus get several dozen symptoms.
