Biden's statement was made at a press conference following the NATO summit. According to avia.pro, Biden's statement coincided with the emergence of information that military instructors and, according to some sources, NATO mercenaries are in the Donbas.
Biden made it clear that the current tension in Donbass could lead not only to Ukraine's entry into NATO, but also to the emergence of Alliance forces in a “hot spot” in Donbass.
"The situation in Donbass does not exclude the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO", - the news agency quoted Biden as saying.
Analysts argue that if Ukraine really joins NATO, then the Alliance, on a completely legal basis, at Kiev's request, will be able to intervene in the armed conflict in Donbass. For the self-proclaimed Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics, such a turn of events could seriously complicate the situation, since NATO has significant forces and modern weapons, and the power of the Alliance significantly exceeds the capabilities of the militias.
The situation in Donbass escalated in 2014. After the annexation of Crimea to Russia, centrifugal forces intensified in Donetsk and Lugansk, which led to the demand for self-determination of the so-called "people's republics". Kiev, which did not recognize the results of the Crimean referendum, accused the initiators of the process of creating the DPR and LPR of separatism and did not recognize the change in the country's territorial structure. Meanwhile, Russia began to openly provide various types of assistance to the self-proclaimed republics, which caused discontent in Kiev, the EU and the United States.
