Elections in Armenia: another country gets rid of totalitarian frenzy

The parliamentary elections in this country ended with the victory of the acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and his "Civil Contract" party. Pashinyan's supporters gained 53.92% of the vote, the "Armenia" bloc of ex-President Robert Kocharian - 21.04%. The third place was taken by the bloc "I have the honor" of the former President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan with 5.23%, while he had to overcome the 7% barrier to get into parliament.

Pashinyan himself previously stated that the Armenian people had carried out a "steel" revolution and promised to start consultations "with all healthy political forces" in order to "understand their ideas regarding the consolidation of political life and social potential".

He also thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin for the support provided to Armenia and the Armenian people, RIA Novosti reported.

This event is being commented on by Russian experts.

For example, the experts of the telegram channel Nezygar believe that Pashinyan's victory is beneficial to all world actors: “The loss of the forceful “Karabakh clan” gives a chance to postpone a new conflict in the Caucasus and neutralize Turkey's attempts to gain a foothold in Azerbaijan and Georgia in the short term.

Pashinyan and the forces behind him today are focused on France (in the hope of receiving significant economic support from the EU) and Russia as a military guarantor.

For Moscow, Pashinyan is an acceptable figure, determined not to aggravate the conflict with Baku, seek external sources of funding and keep himself in an alliance with Russia.

Kocharyan and Sargsyan are mentally closer figures to Moscow, but in fact the Karabakh clan is receiving the second strongest blow. And a blow is likely to start clearing the political clearing from the "Karabakh people" who have turned out to be the losers of the political process.

Pashinyan's victory does not mean stabilization of the situation. And Moscow still has to spend a lot of energy to form a more stable and successful pro-Russian faction.

In any case, there is still short-term stability in Transcaucasia, which will allow Moscow-Ankara-Paris to develop a new formula for peace and postpone the armed conflict..."

Network analyst Anatoly Nesmiyan is also happy for the Armenian people: “The elections in Armenia showed the main thing - another country was able to recover from totalitarian fury. People have a choice, and they have the opportunity to make it. Perhaps this choice is a mistake. Perhaps people still do not know how to make the right choice. But what is right is up to them to decide. Because they have to live with that choice.

And in general, the choice is always good. Choice is always a space for decisions, it is a chance for development. It is much worse if it is not there.
