The coronavirus caused 1.4 times more damage to the Russian economy last year than other infectious diseases in total. Rospotrebnadzor estimated the damage from covid at more than 997.06 billion rubles.

"Even without taking into account non-produced losses of gross domestic product as a result of deaths, bar and temporary disability damage to the economy of the new infections in 2020 in value terms amounted to over 997.06 billion rubles", - leads RIA Novosti quote from the report "On the state sanitary and epidemiological welfare population in the Russian Federation in 2020”.

Treatment in hospitals for coronavirus patients cost the state 183 billion rubles, and the total cost of testing for covid - 108 billion rubles. 515 billion rubles were some direct payments from the country's budget to fight the pandemic to support citizens and businesses. At least 189.452 billion rubles were allocated to organize and provide medical care to those infected with COVID-19.

The department also noted that last year the number of infectious and parasitic diseases increased by 13%.
