As Novye Izvestia already wrote, millions of Russian football fans were actually deprived of the pleasure of watching the Euro 2020 final between the national teams of Italy and England for a completely wild reason: the ugly work of the hastily put together online project of the VGTRK TV channel “Smotrim.ru”.
This site was almost constantly "hanging", and more or less normally started working only by the end of the broadcast. This state of affairs prompted journalist Pavel Pryanikov to make quite fair generalizations:
“Some kind of shame for the Russian state capitalism, which has pulled all possible preferences upon itself, but cannot produce a result. And so in the entire sphere of Russian state capitalism.
As a result, through VPN I watch the finale on some pirate site that has not yet (or could not) ban Russian monopoly state capitalism. But tomorrow he will prohibit, so that there would be no competition among crooked state top managers.
An incident with a bummer, with a non-working "Smotrim.ru" shows us what will happen with Western social networks, which government top managers want to ban in Russia. They will cut hundreds of billions of rubles into analogues - such as RuTuba, Tam-Tama and other shnyagi, and all this stupidly simply will not work. Top managers will eventually leave to live in London with their billions, and will be there incl. use the free Internet, and we will be left with a completely broken Internet.
But soon, according to the plan, the "Russian Wikipedia" should be launched!
“In August 2016, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev by his order launched work on the creation of an encyclopedic portal based on the BDT. For 1.9 billion rubles. by April 1, 2022, the Russian Wikipedia, created taking into account a special spiritual and moral approach, should be operational".
Let's wait a bit, but it looks like they'll just steal these 2 billion rubles. to the "Russian Wikipedia"..."
For his part, the philosopher Sergey Zharikov compares the current situation with the late Soviet one and predicts its outcome:
“Quietly, under the covid, the iron curtain fell, but this did not upset anyone. The elite and its emissaries have unlimited freedom of movement; private jets both flew and still fly.
And the so-called "middle class" will go to kindle the demand for "social justice".
Social time now roughly corresponds to the end of the 70s, only with sausage and still the Internet ...
What should the population have realized over the past cycle? That no modernization takes place in isolation from the international capital market. That thirty years would have to be spent searching for their specialization in the world division of labor. At least soberly assess your position. That investment requires legal institutions and property guarantees.
Previous modernizations - Stalinist and post-war - took place in an era when the purchase of capital goods was accompanied by the transfer of technology. That is, the GAZ built by the Americans then made it possible for almost a hundred years to produce at least some self-propelled carts.
Modern means of production do not provide for such a transfer. So the purchase of a German machine no longer allows you to reproduce even a poor, but analogue and get a technological level up. This is even if the machine is sold.
In the fat years they tried to buy the bankrupt Opel or AMD processor manufacturer. Not sold. And they sold it to the Chinese...
Twenty years ago, there was a brainstorming session in a cheerful company. Then we decided that the success of the conventional West is in the sale of technology in a broad sense, as an organization of activity. Since then, the world has changed, not even technologies are being sold, but the experiences they produce.
This means that creativity is at the helm right now. That the main capital is social organization and human potential".
