FC Rostov coach Valery Karpin (pictured) has been appointed the new head coach of the Russian national football team. His contract will be valid until December 31, 2021.

As reported on the website of the Russian Football Union (RFU), Karpin will not leave Rostov, he will combine work in the club and the national team.

"The Russian Football Union has made a decision on the candidacy of the head coach of the Russian national football team. This post will be occupied by a Russian specialist, coach of FC Rostov Valery Georgievich Karpin... Over the next six months, the coach will combine work in the national team and the club. The contract with Valery Karpin will be signed on July 26, 2021, its terms have already been agreed upon", the RFU said.

It's worth reminding that on July 8 RFU termination contract with Stanislav Cherchesov and his coaching staff after the disastrous performance of the Russians at Euro 2020. RFU is looking for a new head coach. In particular, Karpin was considered, as well as Leonid Slutsky, who already headed the national team, and Sergey Semak. At the last European Championship, the Russian team took the last place in its group. The team lost to Belgium and Denmark.
