For the first time in the past 16 years, Russia has dropped in the ranking of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) from the eighth line to the ninth. Scotland took its place in the ranking.

The country's position in the ranking has changed after the retirement from the League of Conferences of two Russian teams - "Rubin" and "Sochi". “Rubin” in extra time lost to the Polish “Rakuv”, which made its debut in European competitions, with a score of 0: 1. The Sochi club lost to the Serbian Partizan. The teams drew 2: 2, but the Serbs were stronger on penalties. The match ended with a score of 2: 4 not in favor of the Russian team. Both teams were eliminated from the tournament.

“Russian clubs continue their rapid decline in the European arena. A year ago, Zenit and Lokomotiv had an extremely unsuccessful Champions League group stage, Krasnodar made it to the spring stage of the Europa League, CSKA defeated the group in LE, and Dynamo and Rostov "They did not qualify there at all. As a result, Russia entered the Euroseason in 8th place in the UEFA rankings, where we slipped down last year - then we were ahead of the Netherlands. We are already ninth according to the results of yesterday's matches," writes Sovetsky Sport.

Russia was overtaken by Scotland. Russia has 30.68 points, Scotland has 30.7 points. Austria closes the top ten with 29.35 points.

The RPL will now represent only three clubs in the 2021/22 European cups. Zenit will play in the Champions League group stage, Spartak and Lokomotiv in the Europa League group stage.

The last time Russia fell to ninth place in the rankings was in the 2005/06 season. After that, she took the lead thanks to the victories of “Zenith”.
