Three people died after an explosion of a steam-gas-air mixture at the NOVATEK facility

On this fact, the investigators opened a criminal case on an article on violation of safety at work, which led to the infliction of grievous bodily harm to more than two people (article 216 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), informs press service of the Investigative Committee for the region.

The incident took place on Tuesday, August 17th. The team performed work on preparing the tank for applying rust protection to it. The workers were on the territory of the Yargeo LLC oil pumping station (an enterprise of NOVATEK and the Energy Fund - ed.) , 40 kilometers from Nadym. As the investigators found, the workers violated safety procedures, as a result of which the gas-air mixture ignited.

The regional prosecutor's office also launched a check on this fact. Prosecutors will find out whether environmental protection measures were observed at the plant, as well as whether industrial and fire safety measures were observed during the use of hazardous production facilities.

As a reminder, five workers were injured as a result of the accident.
