German Chancellor Angela Merkel (pictured) positively assesses the dialogue with Russia, despite the fact that the countries have disagreements on a number of issues. At the same time, Germany intends to continue to maintain contacts with Russia.

“Despite the fact that we have differences of opinion, it is good that we talk to each other. We intend to continue to maintain contacts and talk with each other”, - Merkel quoted TASS as saying. She also recalled that her visit to Russia fell on the 80th anniversary of the attack by Nazi Germany on the USSR. On this occasion, the German Chancellor laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

According to Merkel, Russia and Germany have something to discuss. In particular, we are talking about the crisis in Afghanistan, as well as about trade relations and civil society. It is worth noting that this is Merkel's farewell visit to Russia as German Chancellor - the parliamentary elections will be held on September 26, she will not participate in them. During a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, her phone rang, after which Merkel switched it to silent mode.

The meeting is also attended by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov. At the end of the protocol part, negotiations will continue behind closed doors.

Following her visit to Moscow, Merkel will speak at a campaign event for the Christian Democratic Union, which she represents. Her prospective successor, Armin Laschet, will also speak there. Experts believe that a trip to Russia will play into Merkel's hands.

Earlier it was reported that the dollar at the auction reached its maximum values for the month, and the euro rose above 87 rubles before the meeting between Merkel and Putin. If the event is successful, the ruble could strengthen, analysts say.
