The General Secretary of the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan, Katsunobu Kato, called the practice of shooting in the area of the Kuril island of Iturup unacceptable, but announced Japan's intention to continue negotiations with the Russian Federation to resolve the territorial dispute.

Kato said that on August 21, the Russian side sent a notification to Japan that in the area of the coast of Iturup Island "in the territorial waters of our country from August 26 to 29 and September 13 to 17, training sessions will take place".

"In response through diplomatic channels has been protesting in response through diplomatic channels has been protesting since the holding of the exercise data is unacceptable and does not correspond to the position of the country", - RIA Novosti cites Kato's words.

He pointed out that Tokyo is going to "persistently continue" negotiations with Moscow on the basis of its "fundamental course towards resolving the territorial problem and concluding a peace treaty."

It's worth reminding that last month, the Japanese Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador Mikhail Galuzin to protest over the visit of Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to Iturup Island.
