Alarm Triggered at Russia's Zvezda ISS Module, the Crew Reports Smoke

As reported by RIA Novosti, referring to the crew's negotiations with the Earth, at the moment it was not possible to identify the source of the smoke.

According to cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky, smoke and the smell of burning appeared at about 5 o'clock in the morning, and then the alarm went off. The devices showed the presence of harmful substances in the area of the medical cabinet in the Zvezda module.

Astronaut Toma Pesce pointed out that the smell of burnt plastic and smoke penetrated the American segment of the station due to the working ventilation.

Currently on the ISS are Russians Oleg Navitsky and Peter Dubov, US representatives Mark Vande Hai, Shane Kimbrow and Megan MacArthur, Frenchman Tom Peske and Japanese Akihiko Hoshide.
