"Smart Voting" has been removed from Google Play and App Store

As a reminder, on September 2 of this year, Roskomnadzor demanded that Apple and Google remove the Navalny application from their App Store and Google Play stores. The department pointed out that the refusal of American companies to comply with this requirement will be regarded as a violation of the current legislation of the Russian Federation and will be interpreted as interference in the elections, which are taking place on September 17-19.

A member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Andrei Klimov, on September 16, threatened American companies with liability, including criminal liability.

This statement was made by Senator Klimov during a meeting attended by Google representative Alexander Monin. "Google is a global platform that takes very seriously providing a safe and secure environment for its users and customers. Google does not take any political side and respects the laws of all countries in which it offers its services", - said a Google spokesman.

As for Apple, according to Senator Klimov, the company was not going to remove the Navalny app from its app store due to some "legal subtleties".

On September 15, Vasily Piskarev, chairman of the State Duma commission to investigate the facts of foreign interference in the internal affairs of Russia, also threatened large IT companies with tougher liability for violating Russian legislation if corporations continued to fail to comply with Roskomnadzor's orders.

Also in early September, it became known that the Moscow Arbitration Court, at the request of a commercial organization from Nevinnomyssk that sells sheep products, banned Yandex and Google from displaying Smart Voting in search engines.
