In 2022, Roskomnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications) will launch the Oculus system, which will search for prohibited content in images and video files.

According to the newspaper "Kommersant", the cost of developing the terms of reference for "Okulus" amounted to 15 million rubles. The tender on September 15 was posted on the public procurement portal. The work is expected to be completed by December 17, 2021.

"Artificial Intelligence will identify extremist and pornographic content, promotion of drugs, incitement to mass disorder and suicide", - said in a statement "Gazety.ru".

Earlier, censors of Roskomnadzor (RKN) searched for prohibited information in video files manually. Connecting artificial intelligence to this work should significantly speed up and facilitate the work of the supervisory agency.

Along with checking the content on video hosting sites, Oculus will monitor materials published on the social network Facebook.

Experts expect that billions of rubles will be required from the budget for the implementation of Oculus. It is not yet known whether the ILV will be able to “recoup” the costs of creating a system based on fines. For some types of violations, the size of penalties reaches half a million rubles, and for the posting of prohibited content with child porn, a criminal penalty is provided with real terms of imprisonment.

Analysts warned that if all videos and images are pre-filtered, Internet access speed for users will slow down significantly, as citizens will have to wait for AI to analyze the content.
