Opinions from the US and Russia: safety measures against psychopathic shooters are useless

If the rules of arms trade in Russia were the same as in America, there would be many more victims of the shooting in Perm.

According to the latest data, as a result of the shooting, which was staged at Perm University by a first-year law student Timur Bekmansurov from a hunting rifle, 6 people were killed and 24 wounded.

Network analyst Yevgeny Zuser, who lives in America, writes on this subject:

“Fortunately, this was not in the United States, where more lethal semi-automatic weapons with fewer obstacles are available to the same psychos. In many cities with a population of over one million in the United States (the same Chicago), 6 or more people were shot and dozens of wounded with firearms - this is a normal week, even in the news is not reflected.

Over the past week, the following news has caught my attention:

In Minnesota, a citizen bought a subscription to a fitness club that included free parking. Taking advantage of this, he spent the night in his car in this parking lot, after which he took a shower in the club and went about his business.

The administration did not like this, and she sent the manager to inform the citizen that his membership was canceled and to return the money. The nervous citizen took out a pistol and shot the manager on the spot. Another club employee ran to his car, took out his pistol, and he and the killer started a Western-style shootout. Both were wounded, the police arrived in time and took one to a prison hospital, the other to a regular one.

In Illinois, a certain citizen, after a divorce, lived with her 12-year-old son. For safety, she bought a pistol and installed security cameras in the house.

Arriving home in a nervous mood, she shouted at her son: "Did you take my USB flash drive with music?"

When he said that he didn’t take it, she pointed the pistol at him, and without receiving an answer, she fired, easily wounding him.

Standing over the child lying on the floor and crying, she pointed the gun at him again and, having not received an answer where the flash drive was, this time mortally wounded him with a shot in the head. This was recorded by home surveillance cameras.

Conclusions? It would be nice to take effective measures against the fact that firearms are readily available to mentally ill people. But mentally defective "conservatives" will not allow us to do this in the USA for a long time. We'll have to live with this, as with the coronavirus spreading among them..."

On the other hand, the tightening of security measures that the Russian authorities are likely to undertake are not only completely useless, but also harmful, writes publicist and writer Marina Shapovalova on her blog:

“I would like to say about the usual “conclusions” that are already flooding the information space.

Of course, the "neurotization of society". It exists, there are a lot of reasons for this, especially in the Russian Federation, but this has nothing to do with shooting. Demonstrative killers arise in all societies and at all times. Their motivations are colored differently (anti-migrant, religious, ...), but if you remove the verbal husk, then the next giving birth to schismatics decided to prove to himself and the world that he is "not a trembling creature." There is nothing else behind this. Is that, in our time, his "feat" is additionally stimulated by the opportunity to get his minutes of world fame in the information space. It is clear to a normal person that this factor is unavoidable, but there is no need to wait for demands to prohibit anything else.

"The influence of computer games and social networks", yes, yes. It has been proven thousands of times that both have the opposite effect - they partially channel aggression. But a great reason for prohibitions and restrictions. Who needs it - it's a sin not to use it.

Mandatory - "the availability of weapons." In general, it does not affect the frequency of such tragic excesses in any way, but who cares. Requiring further tightening and restrictions in the sphere of arms circulation - a bastard.

Each shooting launches the same process: in response to public outrage, organizational conclusions follow - ban, tighten, cut, restrict, close, add fences and constipation, and plant more guards. The spiral of evil infinity. Don't go to your grandmother - it will come to the arrangement of Chinese Xinjiang everywhere.

Of course, not because there are mentally ill guys who are ready to become famous for the senseless murder of strangers. There are not more of them all over the world, but less - as a percentage of the Earth's population, which has increased by almost an order of magnitude in a hundred years. But because humanity is obsessed with security.

It’s just crazy! Because he wants and demands that which does not contribute to security in the least. Itself renounces all freedoms in exchange for fictions and soothing myths..."

Journalist Anna Danilova drew attention to another aspect of the problem, which is also unlikely to lend itself to a simple solution:

“The message of the Perm shooter is scary like any opportunity to look into the eyes of death.

But the main thing is that it finally describes how ridiculously simple it is to get a certificate from a psychiatrist. This is a really serious problem.

“Do you smoke? Do you drink? " and a paid psychologist with those de questions.

You can also ask about "do you hear voices". Only such a comrade will very politely say that he has never heard (and maybe he will tell the truth).

It is quite easy to deceive a psychiatrist (there were experiments when people simulated illnesses and psychiatrists did not understand this, and when people passed a psychiatrist perfectly well, being seriously ill).

But the permission to carry weapons should be different.

I am opposed to the mass carrying of weapons, but I have nothing to answer the argument “He is with a pistol at you, and you are with a stool”.

Now I watched again the recommendations on how to behave in such an attack... there are two types of advice - to run or hide. I remember how many copies were broken, but it's really not clear how to do it right..."
