Park "Gardeners", which is located on Andropov Avenue, will now be called "Park named after YM Luzhkov".
As they say ina statement the press service of the city administration, the decision in this regard was taken after treatment non-profit organization "Yuri Luzhkov Foundation". The initiators of the project offered to take on part of the cost of improving this park.
Recall that Yuri Luzhkov was the mayor of the city from 1992 to 2010. He was fired due to loss of confidence. The former mayor passed away on December 10, 2019.
Earlier, the Moscow authorities were asked to name one of the streets in the capital in honor of the former mayor of the city. In particular, it was proposed to rename 4th Street on March 8 in honor of Luzhkov. The street is located in the Aeroport metro area. The proposal was supported more than 30 cultural figures, but the authorities refused this, citing the fact that at least ten years should elapse from the date of the death of the former mayor. In addition, the authorities opposed the name of one of the streets in honor of Luzhkov because the name of the street would be consonant with already existing streets, such as Luzhnetskaya embankment, Luzhnetskiy proezd, Luzhskaya and Luzhniki streets. The phonetic similarity of Luzhkov's surname with the names of these streets can confuse the townspeople, local authorities say.
