The Investigative Committee of Russia is preparing 14 new appeals about the abuse of convicts in the Saratov Regional Tuberculosis Hospital (RTH) No. 1 of the regional Federal Penitentiary Service.

Prior to that, five criminal cases were initiated on the basis of media reports on the commission of unlawful acts against four convicts.

As the lawyer Snezhana Muntyan told Izvestia, she has applications from 14 convicts in the process.

"I am waiting for the right moment to submit an application to the Investigative Committee to initiate a criminal case. And these are only those people who decided to report crimes against them", - stated the lawyer.

She also pointed out that most of the prisoners who were bullied have already been released and are not afraid to talk about what happened.

“Imagine how many more such victims are still silent, because they are serving their sentences and are afraid to speak the truth”, - added Muntian.

Earlier, the head of the hospital in question, Pavel Gatsenko, was fired.

It's worth reminding that human rights activists have published several videos of torture of prisoners in a tuberculosis hospital. After the publicity, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation announced the initiation of criminal cases under Articles 132 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violent acts of a sexual nature) and 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (abuse of office with the use of violence and the threat of its use). Searches were carried out in the medical facility, the hospital staff and the victims are being interrogated.
