According to the press service of the Southern Military District, the naval strike group of the Caspian Flotilla launched the Kalibr-NK cruise missiles at coastal targets from the Caspian Sea.
“The targets imitating the objects of the imaginary enemy on the coast of the island of Chechnya were successfully hit”, - the message says.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the Kalibr cruise missiles were fired from the Veliky Ustyug small missile ship. The small rocket ships Grad Sviyazhsk and Uglich, which took part in the exercises, have worked out electronic missile launches. The exercises were conducted accompanied by the Dagestan rocket ship.
To ensure the safety of civilian shipping at the exercise site, the military temporarily closed the naval training ground with a total area of over 1,500 nautical miles. The perimeter was guarded by about 15 warships and support vessels of the Caspian Flotilla.
As noted by flot.com, Veliky Ustyug, Grad Sviyazhsk and Uglich - Project 21631 small missile ships (Buyan-M code) - belong to the river-sea class. They were designed in compliance with the requirements for reducing radar signature, equipped with high-precision long-range cruise missiles "Kalibr". The ships reach speeds of up to 25 knots. The crew is about 60 people.
"Dagestan" - Project 11661 patrol ship (code "Gepard"). Equipped with radar and electronic weapons. In addition to the Caliber launchers, it has a 30-mm artillery mount, 20 9M33 missiles as anti-aircraft weapons. An anti-submarine helicopter Ka-27 is on board. The ship's displacement is 1,500 tons, the maximum speed is 28 knots. The cruising range reaches 4000 miles, the autonomy is 15-20 days.
