Next year, it is planned to introduce "smart passports" in three Russian regions. What does this mean for users?

An electronic passport can exist in two forms, according to the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics website. This is either a smart card with a chip and a record of information about its carrier (photo, full name, date of birth, biometric data, registration address), or an application in a mobile device with the ability to generate a QR-code - it will confirm the right of a person to perform certain actions.

Testing the introduction of digital passports in Moscow. To start using the application, you will need to submit a written application to the MFC and register with the Unified Identification and Authentication System and the Moscow City Information Resources Access Control System.

What are the advantages of an electronic passport? Since it is a digital account, it cannot be lost or counterfeited, and the data is reliably protected. In addition, such a document is convenient to use for identification and verification. If you lose your smart card, you can quickly lock it. E-passports will be especially convenient for migrants from the CIS countries.

What are the disadvantages? An electronic passport may be useless in the north of Russia, as well as in remote areas. Where the Internet signal is unstable and there is no way to present an electronic medium, you will have to use a traditional paper ID. Problems can arise from the cold, which quickly discharges electronic devices, and other extreme weather conditions.

Experts predict that digital passports will be in demand. Moreover, electronic passports of enterprises are being created at the same time.
