They explained that if the deadline is maintained, over 60% of tour operators risk going bankrupt.
This is reported by Izvestia, referring to a letter from the Russian Union of Travel Industry, the Association "Tourist Assistance", the National Union of the Hospitality Industry and other organizations. The authors of the documents indicated that of the 385 international outbound tourism agencies included in the Unified Federal Register, 230 operate in the field of cross-border travel to countries that are now closed due to the covid pandemic. These are mainly medium and small tour operators. Large market players are not threatened with bankruptcy, since they are currently massively selling tours to Egypt and Turkey, but small players in the industry will suffer significantly.
Customers of more than half of the paid orders for tours that did not take place due to the pandemic did not decide on an alternative to the closed directions. 30% of the clients of tour operators agreed to another overseas destination. 17% decided to replace it with a tour within the country. As the vice-president of the Russian Union of Travel Industry Yuri Barzykin clarified, tour operator companies currently simply do not have the money to return them to clients who have refused an alternative to canceled trips, because they have already “transferred them to foreign partners”, and those, in turn, “put into circulation”.
Earlier it became known that tens of thousands of Russians may be left without already paid holidays in Greece, since Mouzenidis Travel may be excluded from the register of tour operators. And tourists who bought vouchers from him risk losing not only them, but also the funds paid for them.
