US gymnasts and the Olympic Committee have come to an agreement under which Larry Nassar's victims will receive $ 380 million in compensation, Insider reports citing the Wall Street Journal. Among the victims of the pedophile were current members of the US national team, including multiple Olympic champion Simone Biles. This is one of the largest agreements of its kind, and will be compensated for by hundreds of former and current gymnasts whom Nissar has abused for nearly three decades since 1992. Payments will be made by an insurance company that has worked with the US Olympic and Paralympic Committees.
The scandal around the pedophile doctor broke out in 2015. A year later, Larry Nassar, a former US gymnast doctor, osteopathic physician and professor at Michigan State University's College of Medicine, was charged with child pornography and sexual assault crimes. As the investigation found out, the victims of Nassar were not only 13-15-year-old gymnasts of the Olympic team, but also other children, including a six-year-old child. The FBI found over 37,000 images of child pornography and videos of Nassar harassing minors on the ex-doctor.
As for the gymnasts of the national team, they have repeatedly reported the inappropriate behavior of the doctor, but the US Olympic Committee ignored the complaints. The first lawsuit against Nassar was filed by the bronze medalist of the 2000 Olympic Games, Jamie Danzscher, it was in 2016.
In total, more than 500 women have been charged with sexual assault against the ex-doctor. In 2018, Larry Nassar was sentenced to 175 years in prison for sexual assault under the guise of medical treatment.
