The American authorities have declassified 1,500 documents on the investigation into the assassination of the 35th US President John F. Kennedy, who was shot in 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald (pictured).

This is reported by the National Archives and Records Administration.

John F. Kennedy was shot dead on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas. He was shot at with a rifle as his cortege followed the streets. According to the official version of the investigation, the killer, acting alone, was the employee of the book depository, Lee Harvey Oswald. Two days after the arrest, Oswald was killed.

The released archive contains investigative reports from the CIA, the FBI, the State Department and the Pentagon.

Quite remarkable is one of the CIA documents, which analyzes Lee Harvey Oswald's trip to Moscow - on the eve of the assassination attempt. CIA documents indicate that Oswald received a Soviet visa in record time. More than a month before the murder, Oswald returned to the United States.

In 1992, the United States passed a law obliging the authorities to declassify all documents on the Kennedy assassination by 2017. However, this term was repeatedly postponed by American presidents. The current deadline for the release of all archives is December 15, 2022.

Numerous surveys of public opinion in the United States show that the vast majority of Americans do not believe that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone.
