The department cited the spread of the coronavirus as the reason for the increase in winter holidays. The department noted that thanks to the extension of the autumn holidays, it was possible to break the chains of the spread of infection among schoolchildren, so in November the number of quarantined classes decreased significantly.

According to Interfax, the decision to extend the New Year holidays will be made by the principals, relying on the opinion of the governing councils of schools. The department proposed to submit to the councils the question of the timing of the holidays.

At the same time, kindergartens and colleges will operate normally. For primary school students, it is proposed to introduce duty groups from December 27 to 30.

Earlier, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, extended the sanitary restrictions for schools and other children's organizations in connection with the coronavirus pandemic until January 1, 2024.
