At a meeting between Putin and members of the HRC, which took place on December 9, director Sokurov came up with an initiative to "release" the regions of the North Caucasus from Russia. President Putin reacted extremely negatively to this initiative. The director's speech caused a wide public outcry.
According to RBC, Sokurov's appeal to Fadeev was included in the internal mailing list of the HRC. "I am sure that you have a lot of troubles in the presidential administration. I sincerely regret this," the director notes in the text of the letter.
Sokurov also notifies the members of the HRC that he is receiving "offensive statements from the Chechen sector". The director expresses fears for his life.
It's worth reminding that Sokurov, after his dispute with Putin, was criticized by the presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, as well as TV propaganda figures.
