Omicron forced organizers to cancel Davos Forum

The World Economic Forum (WEF), which was planned to be held from January 17 to 21, 2022 in Davos, Switzerland, was postponed due to uncertainty associated with the spread of the new omicron coronavirus strain.

According to the organizers of the forum, the main reason for canceling the event was the alarming epidemiological situation in the world, which jeopardized the work of the negotiating platform.

“Instead, participants will join the State of the World meetings, which will bring together world leaders online to focus on finding solutions to the world's most pressing problems”, - the organizers quoted Kommersant as saying.

The Economic Forum is traditionally held in Davos, Switzerland. The venue for the event was changed only once: after the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001, the 2002 forum was held in New York in solidarity with the citizens of the United States.

The forum is expected to be rescheduled until the summer of 2022. The previously scheduled Singapore Forum also had to be canceled due to the unfavorable COVID-19 situation.

The omicron strain of the coronavirus COVID-19 identified in South Africa is characterized by a very high rate of spread. He continues to rapidly migrate around the world, despite the restrictive measures taken by many states.
