Novaya Gazeta editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov, who previously received the Nobel Peace Prize, spent the award on charity.

About this he told the publication Znak.com.

The total amount of the award was about 40.2 million rubles. According to the Nobel laureate, spending it took longer than receiving it.

The Nobel Prize laureate decided to distribute the amount between the House with a Lighthouse children's hospice, the Gift of Life and the Circle of Kindness funds, and the Vera hospice fund. Each fund received five million rubles.

Another 10 million went to the medical fund for media workers. This foundation helps journalists fight serious illnesses.

He decided to spend part of the money on making a film about the state of Russian journalism, as well as on awards to his employees. The rest of the money was set aside for the newspaper "for a rainy day".

It's worth reminding that the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Dmitry Muratov in early October. Together with him, Filipino journalist Maria Ressa received it. At the award ceremony, Dmitry Muratov noted that this is an award to all real journalism.
