Question of the day: why do we need herd immunity if it doesn't work?

As you know, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said that the collective immunity to covid in the country is already equal to 58.2%, and in some regions it has already reached 70%. It is necessary to strive, according to her, to 80%. It's funny that during the pandemic, the level of this very collective immunity required to save humanity was constantly changed by experts, starting with 60% and "catching up" as much as 95%!

This circumstance reminded journalist Vitaly Drobyshev of an old Soviet joke about the fact that on the way to communism people have nothing to eat because no one promised to feed them on the way.

Drobyshev rightly believes that the effect of vaccination should manifest itself at any level, that is, already now: “Where the“ herd immunity ”is 80%, and where it is 30%, there should be completely different levels of morbidity and mortality, because vaccinated and those who have been ill are, as it were, withdrawn from the number of those susceptible to the disease, and even more so death with covid..."

For example, in Dagestan today it is 25%, and in Sevastopol - 83%, and therefore mortality should be inversely proportional. However, the opposite is true: it is in the regions where the "collective immunity" is greatest, and the incidence is highest, as we can see in the same Sevastopol, or in Karelia and St. Petersburg, in which it is 74% and 83%, respectively. Who needs such indicators then, if in 2020 almost 340 thousand people died in excess of the expected mortality rate in Russia, and this year there will be even more. What, then, is the salvation of mass vaccination?

A concept that has not been confirmed by experience in science is generally rejected as false. And as soon as the theory of "herd immunity" does not work, then there is no need to rely on it. However, officials in Russia do not listen to scientists, they do what the Western curators tell them, the journalist is sure. And it turns out that the health of citizens is substituted for some "Golik's interest." The Kremlin, on the other hand, is not going to give up useless campaigning for vaccinations in order to achieve “collective immunity”, - just as it is not going to refuse to introduce QR codes, and therefore overstates the covid statistics.

Drobyshev recalls that in 2021 more than 70 million people were vaccinated in Russia, but the death rate will still reach 700 thousand in two years, and will probably exceed the dashing 1990s. And this is not taking into account the rapid spread of the Omicron strain, which, according to scientists from Columbia and Hong Kong universities, bypasses the immune protection that appears as a result of vaccination or a previous illness. This means that new vaccines and new treatments will also be needed.
