The Kazakh authorities promised demonstrators in the city of Aktau to reduce the price of liquefied gas to 50 tenge per liter, as the protesters demanded. Rallies in the country began on January 2 after the price of the resource jumped from 60 to 120 tenge.

The decision to cut gas prices was made within the framework of the social responsibility of the national company Kazmunaigas.

"The government commission met with activists who gathered at Yntymak Square in Aktau. At the meeting, the decisions made during negotiations with the initiative group were announced, namely on reducing the cost of liquefied gas and setting a price of 50 tenge per liter in the Mangistau regio", - is stated in the message on the website of the Prime Minister of the country.

The demonstrators who participated in the rallies were promised not to prosecute them. The authorities agreed with the protesters that all further issues will be resolved through dialogue, the report says.

It should be reminded that residents of Aktau city went to rallies, demanding a return of the gas price up to 50 tenge. The authorities promised to reduce it to 80-90 tenge, but this did not suit the demonstrators. On Tuesday, January 4, tens of thousands of protesters took part in protests in other cities: Nur-Sultan, Taraz, Shymkent and Kokshetau.

The president and the army were forced to intervene in the situation, but this did not stop the demonstrators. They demand the resignation of the government.

The authorities have convened an emergency commission to address the issue. The Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition of Kazakhstan initiated an investigation against the owners of gas stations, who were suspected of price collusion.
