A state of emergency was introduced in the capital of Kazakhstan. The city has imposed restrictions on freedom of movement, including vehicles. The state of emergency will continue until January 19.

In addition, a curfew has been declared in Nur-Sultan. Residents of the capital are prohibited from leaving their homes after 11 pm and until 7 am, according to the local newspaper Zakon.kz.

The state of emergency in the capital was introduced "in connection with a serious and immediate threat to the safety of citizens in order to ensure public safety, restore law and order, protect the rights and freedoms of citizens," says the decree of the President of the country, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev.

The shopping centers "Artem", "Magnum" and "AyMakTau" were closed. They have police officers on duty now.

The siloviki were also pulled to the building of the city administration. The territory was fenced off with ribbons. The patrols were deployed after demonstrators in Almaty stormed the local administration building.

Now the situation in the capital is calm, "Sputnik Kazakhstan" reports. Residents of the capital complain about the lack of mobile communications and the Internet.

Earlier, the state of emergency was also announced in Alma-Ata, Almaty and Mangystau regions.
