"From the position of the republican and regional operational headquarters for combating terrorism, the centers of terrorist threats have been neutralized," the KNB press service said in a statement.

They added that all the administrative buildings previously seized by the demonstrators in Alma-Ata, Kyzyl-Orda, Taldykorgan and Taraz have been liberated. Security has been increased at strategic sites, including weapons storage areas.

"The cleansing of places of possible shelter of militants and participants in the riots is being carried out," the message says.
