"As for consumer prices, if their growth continues or accelerates, the government will either have to start subsidizing the production of the most important products, or it will become necessary to introduce food ration cards in Russia", - Grinberg told RIA Novosti.
He stressed that food certificates are valid in many countries around the world, including the United States, and they are used by millions of people. According to the economist, the main problem is that Russians regard food ration cards as something shameful.
“We just have a slightly different attitude towards them. In the minds of Russians, a food card is a shame”, - he summed up.
This is not the first time that the question of introducing ration cards has been raised. A year earlier, the Accounts Chamber proposed to fight poverty with the help of food certificates. The department proposed monthly to accrue a certain amount or number of points on the card, which can be spent on a certain list of food and essential goods produced in Russia.
At the end of October, the government proposed to fight inflation with food ration cards. Prior to this, similar proposals were received back in 2017, but due to a lack of funds in the budget, the idea was then abandoned.
