Former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko arrived from Warsaw to Kiev, where he faces arrest and trial for treason.

According to RIA Novosti , Poroshenko told reporters about his readiness to stand trial and be arrested at the Frederic Chopin airport in Warsaw.

Poroshenko said that he was not afraid of arrest after arriving in Kiev and did not make special preparations for this case, since he does not consider himself guilty and believes that “the truth is behind him.”

"Not. The people of Ukraine are behind me, ”the news agency quotes the words of the ex-president.

As Kommersant notes, several thousand of his supporters gathered at the Kiev airport. They want to hold a rally at the airport to prevent the arrest of the former head of state.

Poroshenko said that on January 17 he would visit the Pechersky District Court in Kiev, where he was summoned. It is expected that the court, at the request of the investigation, will decide on the election of a measure of restraint for Poroshenko in the case of high treason .

Poroshenko left the country on December 17 for a diplomatic tour of Turkey and Poland. Commenting on the criminal case on treason initiated against him in his homeland, the ex-president noted that he would appear in court on January 17.

The first case of treason and assistance to terrorism against Poroshenko was initiated in connection with the supply of coal from the Donbass. Then many others were added to this accusation. Petro Poroshenko was declared suspected under Part 1 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code (high treason), part 1 of Art. 258-3 (creation of a terrorist organization) and parts 1 and 3 of Art. 258-5 (financing of terrorism).

In total, the Prosecutor General's Office opened over a hundred cases against Poroshenko, of which 40 were subsequently closed. Supporters of Poroshenko consider what is happening to be "political repression."
