Users of "Gosuslug" portal warned about fraud with QR-codes

The Gosuslugi (State services) portal sent out warnings to all users about the increasing cases of fraud, suggesting that they urgently take measures to protect their accounts.

As follows from the text of the message, massively sent to Russians registered on the public services portal, citizens need to strengthen the protection of their data from the actions of fraudsters.

“Do not give the code from SMS to anyone. Employees of the State Services never request such information, ” Kommersant quotes the text of the message.

In order to avoid becoming victims of fraudsters, cybersecurity experts recommend that citizens connect additional data protection methods to their accounts. As an example of such protection, users are advised to set up a security question with an answer known only to the account owner, as well as enable additional authorization with SMS login.

Earlier, scammers invented a new scheme with QR codes on the Gosuslugi portal. According to specialists from the Ministry of Digital Development, the fraudulent scheme is similar to third-party access to an online bank.

In order to obtain information about personal data available on the public services portal, scammers call their potential victims and, under a plausible pretext, try to swindle their personal data.

Posing as employees of the Gosuslugi portal on the phone, they offer to link a QR code to the user's page and get access to the personal account of citizens. The attackers can then, for example, use the victim's data obtained from the portal to apply for loans.

To protect against Internet scammers, experts advise citizens to limit their contacts, including telephone contacts, with strangers and never give them the details of their passport, SNILS, phone number and other information that attackers could use to commit crimes - for example, to registration in the name of the victim of loans or to reset the bank accounts of Russians.
