At the end of 2021, there were 3.4% more bankrupt companies in Russia than a year earlier. Transport, mechanical engineering and construction were mostly affected.

As follows from the report of the Center for Macroeconomic Analysis and Short-Term Forecasting (CMASF), relative to the pre-pandemic 2019, the number of corporate bankruptcies still remains at a low level - minus 16%.

The share of transport accounted for 18% of corporate bankruptcies, the engineering complex - 12.7%, construction - 9.5%, manufacturing - 5.8%.

At the same time, the percentage of bankruptcies in the food industry decreased - 8.5%, agriculture - 3.5% , in the commercial services sector - 1.4%.

Metallurgy demonstrated the neutral nature of bankruptcies at the end of the past year, adding only 0.06% compared to 2020.

At the end of December, it was reported that the share of companies in need of state support had risen to 80%, which is 30 percentage points more than before the pandemic. Moreover, the transport industry was not among those most in need of state support - analysts saw organizations in the light and food industries, trade and the service sector in the first place.
