72 people who arrived at the Olympics in China tested positive for coronavirus

The organizers said that all infected people belong to the category of representatives of “other interested parties” – no COVID-19 was detected among athletes and officials.

“From January 4 to 22, 2022, 2,586 people who arrived in connection with the Olympic Games arrived at the airport in China, including 171 athletes and team representatives, as well as 2,415 other stakeholders. They did PCR tests at the airport. After that, 39 confirmed positive tests were reported, and all of them came from other interested parties”, - the organizing committee website said today.

In addition, a further 33 cases of infection were recorded in closed areas with closed loop management, which are completely separated from the outside community.

Meanwhile, in China, before the Olympics, as part of the fight against Omicron, they began to use rectal tests for covid. It is believed that this method is more effective than PCR tests, but experts believe that China will not use it on athletes and guests of the Olympics.
