1,200 military personnel, about three dozen ships and two dozen aircraft are involved in the exercises of the Northern Fleet in the Arctic, during which the conduct of hostilities and the protection of communications will be worked out.

An Arctic expeditionary group has been organized for the exercises. The commander of the Northern Fleet, Admiral Alexander Moiseyev, is directing the maneuvers.

The main actions will unfold in the waters of the Barents Sea. Both offshore and coastal ranges in the Murmansk region will be involved.

The maneuvers will help to check the coherence of tactical groups of ships, coastal troops, as well as to work out tactical methods of conducting naval combat in the Arctic. There will also be exercises to counter terrorist groups.

The maneuvers involved, among other things, the Admiral Gorshkov guided missile frigate, the Severomorsk large anti-submarine ship, the Ivan Gren large landing ship, submarines, support vessels, aircraft and helicopters of the Air Force and Air Defense Army of the Northern Fleet.

Earlier, on January 24, twenty ships, boats and vessels of the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Federation entered the Baltic Sea to practice combat missions.

On the eve it became known that in the Western Military District , checks of the combat readiness of tank units began. The training is taking place against the backdrop of a crisis in relations between Moscow and NATO. At the same time, the press service of the Western Military District was told that combat readiness checks in the First Tank Army were planned.
