The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, said that the coronavirus had lost its ability to penetrate into the lung tissue. Instead, covid began to affect the upper respiratory tract more often, provoking bronchitis and tracheitis.

The Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Russian Federation spoke about this in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“The virus is constantly changing, this is its property. He is looking for the best form that adapts it to the human body. In search of such the most correct form, the most correct amino acid composition, the virus lost one of the receptors, which ensured its tropism or the ability to penetrate into the lung tissue”, - Popova noted.

She did not rule out the possibility of the virus recovering its ability to infect the lungs in the future, and added that the Omicron strain often lingers in the upper respiratory tract and causes tracheitis, and bronchitis in children. The head of Rospotrebnadzor stressed that the new COVID-19 mutation does not cause a severe course of the disease, which was observed earlier. According to Popova, it is not yet known what complications the virus causes - not enough time has passed to form a conclusion.

“We saw then that the previous options caused long-term complications, very different. Therefore, the main task here today is not to get sick, to do everything for this”, - she warned.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus in Russia continues to hit anti -records every day – more than 125,000 cases were detected yesterday. At the same time, it is said about 17 thousand hospitalized, although only 9090 people went to hospitals the day before.
