Russian biathlete Valeria Vasnetsova posted a complaint on social media about the food she receives at a quarantine hotel in Beijing for the Winter Olympics.

According to Vasnetsova, for five days now she has been given the same low-quality food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, which is virtually impossible to eat.

Vasnetsova published a photo of her lunch on Instagram, explaining that every day in a quarantine hotel she is fed the same food. Of all the dishes placed in the plastic container, only a handful of pasta was edible. From such a diet, the athlete lost a lot of weight - to such an extent that her “bones already stick out”. Vasnetsova got into a quarantine hotel after tests revealed she had a coronavirus.

Upon learning of the athletes' complaints, the head of the Russian Biathlon Union, Viktor Maigurov, said that he had asked the International Biathlon Union (IBU), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the organizing committee of the Beijing Games to change the food conditions in the quarantine hotel.

“Through the IBU, they sent a request to the IOC, to the organizing committee, to the athletes’ commission in order to correct the situation,” Kommersant quotes Averyanov’s statement. The Chinese side, in turn, promised to take measures to correct the situation.

Earlier it was reported that after 24-year-old biathlete Valeria Vasnetsova, who was sent to the Beijing Olympics, tested twice for coronavirus, the Chinese authorities quarantined the athlete in a special hotel. She will no longer be able to compete. Thus, she lost her chance for a medal, in addition to which the Russian authorities promised to pay bonuses of up to 4 million rubles to athletes. Instead of Vasnetsova, 28-year-old Yevgenia Burtasova will represent our country at the Games.

The opening ceremony of the XXIV Olympic Games in Beijing will take place on February 4. The Olympics will last until February 20. Earlier it was noted that five members of the women's biathlon team could not fly to the Olympics. They had difficulty with QR codes when boarding the flight. In addition, three members of the Russian national bobsleigh and skeleton team did not go to the Olympics, who were diagnosed with coronavirus on the eve of the competition. On the eve of the start of the Games, it became known that six members of the Russian hockey team, including reserve hockey players Dmitry Shugalev and Kirill Marchenko, passed positive tests for COVID-19 upon arrival in China.
