The second gold medal of the Russian team at the Olympic Games in Beijing was brought by the figure skaters, having won the team tournament. Earlier, the first Russian gold medal was won by skier Alexander Bolshunov in the skiathlon.

The team championship includes all types of figure skating (women's and men's singles, couples and ice dancing). Russia was represented by Mark Kondratyuk, Kamila Valiyeva, Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov (sports couples), as well as Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov (ice dancing).

The national team secured the victory after seven events out of eight, so the performance of Kamila Valiyeva, who was the last to go on the ice, could not affect the final result. However, she performed without errors and took first place.

Earlier it became known that figure skaters Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov strengthened the leadership of the Russian team at the Beijing Olympics by winning the team competition in the free program.

Rivals of the Russians from the United States remained in second place, in third - the representatives of Japan.

Thus, the Russian team, playing under a neutral flag, became the leader in the medal standings. Just yesterday, we recall, the team was in third place. To date, the Russians have two gold, silver and bronze medals.
