The IOC called the rumors about a positive doping test of figure skater Valiyeva speculation

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has not confirmed the information that the delay in rewarding figure skaters for team performances at the Beijing Olympics is due to a positive doping test of Russian woman Kamila Valiyeva.

According to "Soviet Sport" with reference to the statement of the head of the press service of the IOC, Mark Adams, the organization invites everyone to "show patience."

“I will not comment on rumors on this topic. Certain legal situations arose yesterday, but it is inappropriate to comment on this. A potential case of doping discovery is speculation. I won't say who's in charge. This is a legal moment, work is underway. As for the information about the awards ceremony, this is also a rumor”, - Championship” quotes Adams words.

A day earlier, it was reported that Beijing had postponed the awarding of the figure skaters who won the team championship. The reason allegedly was a positive doping test of 15-year-old figure skater Kamila Valiyeva, which was taken from her long before the Olympics - in December 2021.

Now experts are checking the information that has appeared. Since Valiyeva is under 16, she cannot be punished for violating anti-doping laws. According to the rules of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Valieva, due to her age, is a “protected person” and cannot be found guilty. However, if the information about the banned substance is confirmed, then the Russian team may be deprived of gold for winning the team tournament, while Valiyeva may not be allowed to compete in the singles program.

According to RBC, the athletes found trimetazidine in the doping test. It has been banned since 2015 and was classified as a cardiometabolic modulator in 2021. According to sports doctor Nikita Karlitsky, trimetazidine is similar in principle to meldonium: it protects the heart and brain during intense exercise.

If the information about doping in Valiyeva’s samples is confirmed, not only she, but the entire ROC team will lose medals: Mark Kondratyuk, sports couple Anastasia Mishina / Alexander Gallyamov and dancers Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov.

Kamila Valiyeva is the current champion of Russia and Europe, the holder of world records in the short (90.45 points), free (185.29) and total programs (272.71). Valiyeva is coached by Eteri Tutberidze.

At the Beijing Olympics, Kamila Valiyeva won both programs, scoring 90.18 points in the short program and 178.92 points in the free program.

Performances of figure skaters with a short program at the Olympics are scheduled for February 15, with a free program - for February 17.
