State Duma deputies at a plenary session on Tuesday approved a draft appeal to the Russian president, which proposes to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed republics of the DPR and LPR.

The draft resolution was developed by deputies from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. In their opinion, the recognition of these republics by Russia will be the beginning of the recognition of their independence by other countries.

It's worth reminding that two documents on this matter were submitted to the State Duma for consideration. The second was developed by deputies from United Russia. They suggest that before sending a request to the Russian president, it should be coordinated with the Russian Foreign Ministry. This project was also supported by the deputies, but fewer votes were cast for it - 310 against 351 for the CPRF project.

Before the vote, a deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Kazbek Taysayev, spoke, who said that Russia is to some extent responsible for what is happening in the Donbass. Recognition of the independence of these territories will help the "fraternal people," he is sure. The MP recalled that earlier Ukraine stopped paying pensions and social benefits to those residents of their country who live on the territory of the self-proclaimed republics.

The document from United Russia also mentions that the inhabitants of these republics voted for their independence in a referendum in 2014, speaking out against the oppression by the Ukrainian authorities of their rights and freedoms, including the right to speak Russian and profess faith according to their convictions.

Recall that the Kremlin did not comment on these proposals until they were approved in the lower house.
