In September, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere. During the Super Bowl, which was held in the US on Sunday, the show's filming company Amazon released a 60-second teaser. This is reported by Business Insider.
Rings of Power is set in the so-called Second Age, which in the novels of J.R.R. Tolkien takes place thousands of years before the events shown in Peter Jackson's original film trilogy The Lord of the Rings. References to the Second Age are scattered throughout the books of the trilogy, as well as in the appendices that are published with them. The writer's heirs put the opportunity to film this fragment of the Tolkien universe up for auction, where they were acquired by Amazon.
In the new series, viewers will be able to see familiar faces and stories that were mentioned in passing in the Jackson trilogy. For example, in the teaser there is an episode with a battle similar to the battle on the Dagorlad Plain. In The Fellowship of the Ring, this epic battle between Sauron's orc army and an alliance of elves and humans was shown very briefly. There are also young versions of characters known from the film trilogy, such as Galadriel and Elrond, in the new show.
The new show was filmed in New Zealand, so it will have all the same stunning scenery that viewers remember from the movie trilogy. Its author Peter Jackson did not take part in the filming of the series: Patrick McKay and JD Payne became showrunners.
The TV show The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power will premiere on Amazon on September 2, 2022.
