Former presidential aide Vladislav Surkov (pictured) published an op-ed titled "The nebulous future of a bawdy world" in which he discussed Russia's geopolitics and borders.

At the beginning of the article posted on the "Actual Comments" website, the Russian statesman noted the importance of geopolitics, the influence of the area on the development and aspirations of the people. He notes that the environment influences many aspects of the life of the local population and forms the unique features of the nation. In addition, the politician stated the importance of the size of the territory, calling "control of space - the basis of survival".

“It is now often heard that this is an archaic notion of politics. That the struggle for lands, seas and skies is no longer worth waging, because ...it is not clear, however, why. Most likely, because of the laziness and because it's frightful”, - Surkov noted in the article.

The text focuses on the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, concluded between the Bolsheviks and Germany in 1918. In the opposition press of that time, the truce was dubbed the "obscene peace". According to the politician, this definition most clearly emphasizes the terms of surrender, according to which Russia abandoned the vast territories of the Baltic states, Belarus, and Ukraine.

“The western border rolled back far to the east, pushing the country within the boundaries of pre-Petrine, one might even say, pre-Romanov times. There is nowhere more obscene, ”the article says.

Surkov emphasizes that the western border of Russia on the modern world map practically coincides with the border along the Brest peace. This happened without losing in wars and revolutions. He notes that perestroika and "turbid publicity" were enough to demonstrate the "fatal vulnerability of the system".

“There is a lot of geopolitics ahead. Practical and applied. And even, perhaps, contact. How could it be otherwise, if it is crowded and boring, and awkward ... and it is unthinkable for Russia to remain within the borders of an obscene world”, - Surkov said.

At the end of the article, he added: “We are for peace. Of course. But not for obscene. For the right one".
