IOC chief declares Beijing Winter Olympics closed

Today, the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, announced the closing of the XXIV Winter Olympic Games, which took place in Beijing.

The closing ceremony was held at the National Stadium in Beijing, preceded by a parade of athletes. The Olympic fire has been extinguished, RIA Novosti reports . The XXV Winter Olympic Games will be held in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo from 6 to 22 February 2026.

Athletes from 91 countries took part in the Olympic Games 2022, and 109 sets of awards were played during the competition. Russian athletes competing under the flag of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) took ninth place in the medal standings. In terms of total number of medals, the Russians broke their own record , winning a total of 32 awards: 6 gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze. The best result in the overall ranking for the second Winter Olympics in a row was demonstrated by Norway, whose athletes won 37 medals. The Norwegians also set a new record for the most gold medals in a single Olympics with 16 medals.
